ARCHITECTURE.
Villa Nurbs is a single-family home located in the Costa Brava area (province of Girona). The architect, Enric Ruíz-Geli (Barcelona, 1968), is well known for his unconventional designs combining the movement of organic lines and complex geometries with new technologies. This project was awarded an Honorary Mention in the Seventh ASCER Ceramics prizes.
CERAMICS.
Villa Nurbs features latest-generation structures with integrated ceramic work – a material with a long tradition behind it in architecture, both in the construction of buildings and in their finishes. The production work for the ceramics for the north wall of this building were turned out using digitally-cut moulds under the direction of Toni Cumella (Granollers, 1951). These pieces forming the building’s ceramic “skin” and featuring shapes inspired in the scales of a reptile or some antediluvian creature, were painted by Frederic Amat (Barcelona, 1952). As an artist skilled in ceramics installations, Amat has turned the ceramic work into pieces of great aesthetic and function value. By integrating traditional and latest-generation materials, Ruíz-Geli has brought industry and art closer together.
